Monthly Vocabulary and Language Structures Explained...
Each month, I will introduce a specific set of vocabulary words and oral language structures to the students in order to help them to build up a bank of words they are comfortable using in French. These words and language structures will allow them to participate in small and large group conversations with their teacher and peers. A copy of these words and structures will be sent home at the beginning of each month, and students will have multiple opportunities to practice them through activities and games in the classroom.
In September, we will focus on classroom objects as students need to know how to refer to these objects in French throughout the year. We will play games to introduce and practice these words throughout the month, as well as sing songs and read stories incorporating this vocabulary. Students will create their first writing activities using these words as well.
At the end of the month, each child will be assessed on their ability to recall these words and use the oral language structures appropriately. This is a way of keeping track of how each student in managing with the new language being used in the classroom. Each parent will receive a copy of this assessment at the end of the month in our "Progress Duo-Tang."
